Better staff retention
Summary
This was the development of a training portal designed to enhance skills and foster staff retention at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), particularly within the IT department. The goal was to establish a streamlined framework for internal processes and promote ongoing professional development.
So, what?
Tasked with designing the RBA’s internal development portal, our team engaged in deep discussions with senior leadership and end-users. The result: a design fostering not only enhanced usability but also transparency in progress tracking. This crucial feature empowers staff with autonomy over their professional growth, addressing the common ambiguity in training pathways.
We aimed to improve staff skills and retention by creating a streamlined framework for tracking training and development, especially in the IT department. The challenge was meeting the client’s needs while maintaining high-quality work. Our team designed the RBA’s internal development portal after consulting with senior leadership and end-users. The result is a user-friendly design with clear progress tracking, giving staff control over their professional growth and addressing common issues with unclear training paths.
Conclusion
The training and development framework smoothly integrated into the conceptual prototype of the portal, guided by engaging co-design processes with stakeholders and users. However, a challenge arose during prototype development—deciding on the digital platform became a stumbling block.
In the project debrief, a key takeaway emerged: staying abreast of tech trends is crucial for informed decision-making. The experience underscored the importance of establishing design decisions early to avoid potential costs and adapt more efficiently.
